Experience Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Experience Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Greetings! I wanted to keep you informed for those who may have never traveled to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, but maybe one day would like to. Several years back I took my first-ever trip to Ocho Rios.  Jamaica is such a unique country with historical culture surrounding it.

Ocho Rios

The name “Ocho Rios” in Spanish is las chorreras—”the waterfalls.” The town itself can be filled with traffic, but the area has  several worthwhile attractions. A few steps from the main road in Ocho Rios are some of the most appealing inns and  oceanfront restaurants in the Caribbean.

One of the things you cannot go without, like most places where you travel, is your digital camera or using your camera phone.  Take lots of photos because the beauty of the scenery is amazing. If you are driving by car through part of the country, just  getting through those narrow, hilly roads is an adventure by itself, but it is exciting looking at the scenery.

I remember on my way traveling through the country, stopping by a narrow side of the road, Jamaicans sell lots of souvenirs, including their foods of many variety like ackee, (which is a fruit), bread fruit, mangos, plantains, and sugar cane. Sugar cane is a persistent tropical grass with tall strong jointed stems from which sugar is extracted. It tastes like pure liquid sugar.

Just like many other tourist spots in Jamaica, Ocho Rios has nice beaches, jet skiing, and various Caribbean foods of your choice. They have great reggae music. Stop by and see Margaritaville Ocho Rios. It is bar and grill that provides all-day family fun and night time entertainment. Sit back and enjoy a nice cold Red Stripe. Red Stripe is Jamaica’s official beer.

If you are stopping off for a few hours, taking a cruise in the Caribbean, you can easily get to and experience a famous tourist spot where people climb a 600-ft. waterfall at Dunn’s River Falls. That is one of Ocho Rios top attractions. Tourists grab a hold on each other hands to climb up. They also offer tourists to climb into a comfortable safari-rigged Land Rover to really explore that section of the country. You can also go on a zip-line while on tour and many other things to experience. For the experience, it is so worthwhile.

Regardless, traveling through the countryside or stopping off for a few hours on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, Ocho Rios, is always known for not just for a fun vacation spot, but for anyone that can experience its unique culture, history, and landmarks.
