Beauty of the Florida Palm Tree in Scripture

There may actually be a hidden beauty of the Florida Palm Tree which is mentioned in scripture. The explanation of the palm-tree figure is very interesting. In Scripture, it says the palm is always the date palm, which is very beautiful. It has extremely deep tap roots—called a root ball—and thus can flourish even in the desert, growing tall and it lives long. It is perhaps the most useful of all trees. This tree not only producing dates, but also sugar, honey, wine, oil, resin, rope, thread, tannin, and dyestuff. The trees seeds are fed to cattle and its leaves are used for roofs, fences, mats, and baskets. Its fruit is said to get sweeter as the tree grows in age. This is compared to the believer in Psalm 92:13-14: “Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing”.

It also says in Matthew 21:8 – It was palm branches that padded the path of the Lord Jesus while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

This message teaches us that God enables each of us to flourish like the palm tree—beautiful in the Lord, while being useful in His service, and bearing good fruit to His glory, even into old age!
